Amador City is one of the smallest incorporated cities in California. The total population remains around 150 people. This town was also one of the more interesting gold mining towns of the 49'ers. It sometimes is referred to as the "hidden Nugget of the Mother Lode".
All of the buildings of the town are original to the 1870's. These historic buildings are now the home to a variety of unique specialty and antique shops, a bakery, restaurants, and bed-and-breakfast inns. A short distance away is an underground gold mine available for touring.
